Raclette Fermier

This farmhouse Raclette is a semi firm, rind washed cheese, perfect for melting. The name itself comes from the French word ‘racler’ which means ‘to scrape’. The cheese has a smooth and creamy texture with a milky, meaty and slightly nutty flavour.

The History, Dairy & Farm, Animals & Maker

Raclette is a world famous Alpine cheese from both sides of the French and Swiss Alps. Ours hails from the French side.

The milk is sourced from the cooperative of Bogève, less than 5km from the Fruitière where the cheese is made. La Fruitière des Neiges is a family business that was created in 1913 in the village of Bogève, in the heart of the Vallée Verte. Their Raclette is is made from the unpasteurised milk of both Abondance and Tarentaise cows that graze on the verdant, floral alpine meadows which surround the dairy.

Sustainability

The cows live freely on the mountains eating grasses, herbs and flowers, and their milk travels less than 5km to the dairy.
