Aslina Sauvignon Blanc, 2021

Aslina wines are made by Ntsiki Biyela, the first black female winemaker in South Africa, and the company is named after her beloved grandmother. Ntsiki grew up in a rural village in Mahlabathini and worked as a domestic worker for a year after high school, before being awarded a scholarship to study winemaking at Stellenbosch University. She graduated in 2003 and then joined boutique winery Stellekaya as their winemaker the next year.

Ntsiki had real ambition to create her own wines, which grew even stronger after a collaboration with Californian winemaker, Helen Kiplinger, so when she returned to South Africa in 2017, Aslina was born

Ntsiki’s winemaking philosophy is based around a real affinity with nature and connection with the soil, two things she discovered during harvests in Tuscany and Bordeaux. Since making her own wines, Ntsiki has won many accolades and awards, including the Diversity and Transformation Award for her pioneering work in South Africa and Woman Winemaker of the Year and was twice the finalist for The Most Influential Woman in Business and Government. Her wines have also won over 15 major international awards.

This Sauvignon Blanc is crisp and fresh with citrus fruits, fresh grass and green fig on the nose and a refreshing, zesty palate, with hints of tropical fruits like mango, melon and pineapple.
