Olasagasti catch every tuna individually, using a pole and line, the most sustainable and environmentally friendly method of fishing. Their cannery is based in the Basque Country in Spain and every part of the manufacture process is done by hand, from the filleting of the fish, to its marinading, preserving or cooking, to the final packing into tins. All the tuna are caught in summer, in MCS certified waters, when they are in peak condition.
Olasagasti are located in the Basque Country and fish in the cold Atlantic waters of the Bay of Biscay, a carefully controlled area which is managed by Total Allowable Catch to ensure sustainability.
Olasagasti line catch all of their Albacore tuna, one at a time, in the Cantabrian sea to avoid any unwanted fish being caught and thrown away. They only fish seasonally, during the summer, when the tuna are in perfect condition.
