Opies is one of the oldest family-owned businesses in the UK, having been founded in 1880. In the 1920’s the business moved to Sittingbourne in Kent, where world class pickling technologies were developed, for which they are still famous for to this day.
Opies are dedicated to sustainability and safeguarding the environment so have taken many steps to reduce their ecological impact. Firstly, they incorporate water recycling into their production, meaning that all water used in the cooling process in recycled. Secondly, 90% of all packaging used by the company is recyclable, including their jars and lids and all external cardboard packaging. The company organises their deliveries to reduce carbon emissions and local ingredients are sourced wherever possible to minimise food miles.
