About the Producer

In the early 1900s, Henry Steinbarth moved to the United States from his hometown in Bavaria. He settled in Chicago and established a meat market, creating hand crafted sausages and baked goods that reflected his European heritage.
As the population of Chicago diversified with immigrants from Latin America, Henry created a Mexican sausage known as Chorizo, which became a favourite among the Mexican community. Henry’s sons and a lifelong friend joined the company and in 1949, La Preferida (a nickname given to the family by the locals, meaning ‘the preferred’) was officially born.
Today the family business is in its fourth generation and offers over 250 products, made from carefully selected peppers and ingredients from growers in the most fertile regions of Mexico, for the very best quality and flavour.
