Gewurztraminer 2019, Charles Frey

The Frey family were originally from Switzerland but settled in Damback-la-Ville in the 18th Century to start growing vines. To start with, the family worked the vines using their cattle but sold their harvests to local wine merchants. From 1958 however, the two Frey brothers, who each inherited part of the vineyard from their father, decided to produce their own wines. Charles Frey and his wife produced their first bottles in 1963 then built their first cellar in 1968. Charles’ son joined the team in 1984, having graduated from the Alsatian school of viticulture, and radically transformed production methods at the vineyard. He turned the farm into a biodynamic agriculture, which was groundbreaking at the time. By 2003, the third generation joined the team and now all three work together. In 2010, the family built a new bioclimatic wine storehouse made entirely of natural materials to store and mature all their wines.

This 2019 Gewurztraminer has an intensely aromatic nose with generous tropical fruit flavours on the palate. Mango, lychee and passionfruit are at the forefront, with crisp green fruits balancing the wine. A lasting acidity gives the wine a clean and lingering finish.
